History

History of Jonathan Gloag Academy

Jonathan Gloag Academy (JGA) opened its doors to 138 pupils in January 2002 in the serene campus situated on Mbagathi Way, after a special official opening by His Excellency, Retired, President Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi.

JGA was founded to educate the orphaned and destitute children of Kenya Children’s Homes (formerly Thomas Barnardo House) alongside fee paying pupils. From the beginning, all profits from the school have been used to enable the charitable purposes of Kenya Children’s Homes (KCH) to help provide education and care to vulnerable children.

We aim at facilitating the integration of children from KCH with those from regular families, leading to the realisation that they are one.

The school, managed by a team of qualified professionals, stresses the highest level of discipline and mutual respect amongst pupils, teachers and parents guided by Christian principles.

Two years after it opened in 2002, in January 2004, a Junior Wing, which accommodated the Lower Primary and Kindergarten at that time, was officially opened in a colourful ceremony.

In January 2006, the school expanded again with the opening of the Junior School at Akilla, which comprised of Classes 1, 2 & 3 and launched the third stream of the school.

Today, the school educates 1100 children across the three campuses with Akila housing Grades 2&3, Funguo housing the Playgroup and the main campus housing all other grades and classes. The primary section has four streams and 9o staff members across the school enables JGA to offer both the 8-4-4 and CBC curriculums of education.

The school has also excelled in co-curricular activities such as music, drama, swimming, martial arts and fine art. At JGA , we believe in giving children exposure to various aspects of life that may not be captured in the school curriculum. We do this through annual projects for pupils and a variety of school trips.

Our key aim is to provide an all-round education for our pupils in an environment of acceptance, while encouraging them to attain their full potential.

JGA is a name synonymous with success and each year we are proud to produce top achievers in the National Examinations.
